(綜合報道)(星島日報報道)一項研究報告顯示，美鈔被可卡因污染的情況愈來愈嚴重，多達九成的美鈔紙幣都沾有可卡因的殘迹，當中以首都華盛頓的美鈔最為骯髒，九成半都帶毒。研究發現，中國和日本的鈔票乾淨得多，只有一成二至兩成受到可卡因沾染。 D5k美鈔最污穢 90%沾可卡因2009-08-18
有關研究由美國麻省大學（University of Massachusetts）達特茅斯分校的華裔博士Yuegang Zuo進行，他領導的研究小組今次分析美國、加拿大、巴西、中國和日本五國三十多個城市的鈔票，以檢測鈔票上的可卡因含量。
結果發現，美鈔最骯髒，從十七個美國城市搜集到的二百三十四張鈔票樣本顯示，九成鈔票都發現有可卡因的殘迹，每張美鈔含量由零點○○六微克至一千二百四十多微克不等。沾毒情況較兩年前的同類調查上升了兩成，當時沾染可卡因的美鈔比例只有六成七。
事實上，以往已有研究顯示，美鈔沾染可卡因的情況嚴重，是由於毒販通常使用沾滿可卡因的手來運錢，而很多吸毒者會把鈔票卷成吸管。此外，自動櫃員機的刷子和滾軸吐出鈔票時，也會散播可卡因粉末。
Yuegang Zuo說：「我不能肯定為甚麼情況愈來愈嚴重，但這可能和經濟下滑，人們轉而吸食可卡因減壓有關。」他指此類研究非常有意義，因為可以協助執法及鑑證專家調查一個社區的吸毒模式。
最新研究發現，國會及白宮所在的華盛頓，美鈔受可卡因污染的情況最嚴重，因為有九成半的錢都沾了毒，其次是巴爾的摩、波士頓及底特律。美鈔相對來說較為乾淨的是鹽湖城。
至於其餘四國的情況，加拿大毒錢比例僅次於美國，二十七張鈔票樣本中，有八成半都沾有可卡因，每張可卡因含量由二點四微克至二千五百三十多微克不等。巴西排第三，十張樣本中有八成沾毒。而中國和日本則最乾淨。中國一百一十二張鈔票中，只有約兩成受可卡因污染；而十六張日圓樣本中，更只有一成二含可卡因殘迹。
雖然有很多鈔票沾有可卡因，但Yuegang Zuo指出，由於含量相當微，一般人握在手中不會影響健康或因此惹上法律麻煩。他已把研究結果提交給美國化學協會年度會議，以喚起外界關注可卡因受到濫用的情況。
